VOLUNTEERING

Bringing together old and young people

Our Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds to work with our charity. They are over 50, reliable, skilled and want to make a regular commitment.

We work with children helping with reading and maths, also have volunteers who do coaching with Years 12 and 13 and volunteers who work in early years Children’s centres.  The Children benefit from 1:1 time with an adult, and both children and the older person benefit from talking together.  Conversing with children helps where parents may not be fluent in English

WHERE WE VOLUNTEER

Generation Exchange arranges volunteering placements in schools throughout Haringey and also some in Enfield. Locations include schools in the N8, N22, N17, and  N15 postcode areas.

HOW WE SUPPORT OUR VOLUNTEERS

Training

A thorough and ongoing training programme via our regular Network & Support group meetings

Placement

We find an appropriate local placement

Mentoring

We provide a mentor for everyone, giving support during the first 12 months of the placement.

Ongoing Support and networking

Generation Exchange volunteers regularly meet up for training sessions, celebration events, coffee mornings and occasional meals out.  Socialising, meeting like-minded people, sharing ideas and supporting each other is a vital component of what we offer.
